New Lego Movie 2 Trailer Makes Fun Of Chris Pratts Many Blockbusters

The LEGO Movie was something of a surprise considering just how good it was, making it the start of yet another franchise starring Chris Pratt. The former Parks & Recreation actor has come a long way now that he's the hero of numerous film series, and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part isn't going to let that joke pass it by, as the new trailer shows. Check it out.

The first part of this trailer we've seen before. the LEGO world that our characters live in has become a desolate wasteland following the events of the first movie. Things go from bad to worse when a spacecraft arrives and kidnaps Wyldstyle and most of the rest of our heroes, leaving only Emmitt, voiced by Chris Pratt, to save them all.

However, once he flies off to fo the rescuing bit, he finds himself being rescued by a brash and scruffy hero named Rex Dangervest. It turns out Rex is a galaxy defending, archeologist, cowboy, raptor trainer, which is a pretty eclectic and awesome set of skills. It's also, of course, a rundown of all the jobs that Cris Pratt's characters have had in his recent films like Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World, and The Magnificent Seven.

Although Chris Pratt has yet to play an actual archeologist, though he has been rumored to be a possible successor of the Indiana Jones franchise, and maybe The LEGO Movie 2 thought that would be a done deal by the time it came out.

Of course, the rest of the joke is that Rex Dangervest is actually voiced by Chris Pratt as well. Making this yet another of his uber-macho characters.

Of course, the fact that Chris Pratt's other character, Emmitt the construction worker, is so much the opposite of the persona that Chris Pratt has built in movies in recent years, beyond simply being a yellow plastic toy, is part of the joke to begin with. In the first film, the character was the "chosen one" but even that was mostly just a joke and the character's averageness is what makes him so endearing.

The first LEGO Movie was surprising in just how good it was considering the fact that it based an entire story around interlocking bricks. Certainly, the bar will be raised that much higher for a sequel. How will The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part be able to shake up expectations considering how well received the first movie was? There's little hint of that in this trailer, but to be fair there was little hint in the run-up to the first movie either, so we'll have to wait and see.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part will be in theaters this February. In addition to the return of Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, and Will Arnett as LEGO Batman, the film will see the addition of new characters voiced by the likes of Tiffany Haddish, Stephanie Beatriz, and Arturo Castro.

When Denis Villeneuve's Dune Reboot Will Be Released

Denis Villeneuve first Dune movie has its first (and hopefully final) release date: November 20, 2020.

The Oscar-nominated Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 director is putting together the ultimate star-studded cast for his adaptation of Frank Herbert's 1965 novel. Denis Villeneuve has plans for more than one movie, but the first one has to do well -- at least better than the 1984 movie, which only made about $31 million off a $40 million budget.

Dune will also open in IMAX and 3D on November 20, The Hollywood Reporter shared. It has every chance of being a visual masterpiece, considering the director and the material.

Dune is expected to start filming this spring, including locations in Jordan and Budapest. So far, the growing cast is reported to include Timothe Chalamet as Paul Atreides; Rebecca Ferguson as Jessica Atreides; Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto; Zendaya as Chani; Javier Bardem as Stilgar; Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck; Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban; Stellan Skarsgrd as Vladimir Harkonnen; Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam; and Jason Momoa recently in talks to play Duncan Idaho.

Last year, Denis Villeneuve had said Dune would probably take two years to make, and his goal was to make two films, "maybe more."

Early last year, at the Cannes Film Festival, Denis Villeneuve gave an update on his plans for multiple movies:

Eric Roth wrote the first draft and I worked on my side afterward. I have not had such fun on the creative side since Incendies! My wish would have been to make both films at the same time but it will be too expensive. We will do them one at a time.

He also shared this interesting tease that his Dune would be "Star Wars for adults":

Most of the main ideas of Star Wars are coming from Dune so it's going to be a challenge to [tackle] this. The ambition is to do the Star Wars movie I never saw. In a way, it's Star Wars for adults. We'll see.

Dune is just the latest movie to get a release date this week, closely following the rescheduled dates for Bond 25 and Fast and Furious 9.

At the moment, Dune may have November 20, 2020 to itself. Fantastic Beasts 3 was going to open that date, and so far Warner Bros. has yet to officially say anything, but with production moving back several months due to the movie being twice the size of the first two films, I'm thinking there's no way Fantastic Beasts 3 opens in 2020. Pencil it in for 2021.

As we wait to see who is next to join the amazing Dune cast, keep an eye on our 2019 movie release date schedule to what's coming to theaters this year.

The Oscars ceremony this year has been marred by controversy. Most of it, to date, has surrounded the host. Kevin Hart was an option, until offensive jokes from his past made it difficult for him to remain in the white-hot spotlight that comes with the Oscar host gig. Instead of squeezing in a replacement, the producers have opted to change up the format, and today at TCA, ABC President Karey Burke elaborated on the main reason why they went with a hostless telecast this year. She said:

There was an idea [after the Kevin Hart story] that we were just going to have presenters at the Oscars, and we all got on board with that idea pretty quickly. The main goal, which I was told was the Academy came to ABC last year after a very long telecast was to keep the show to three hours. The producers, I think wisely, decided to not have a host and to go back to the presenters and the movies being the stars. And that will be the best way to keep the show at a brisk three hours.

One complaint leveled at the Academy Awards telecast in recent years is that it goes on too long. Then again, for those who adore movies and the film industry, the show can go on for as long as it needs to, so long as everyone is properly celebrated. When it was suggested that certain below-the-line categories might be handed out during commercials, purists were outraged.

But ABC President Karey Burke, when speaking to TCA Members (including CinemaBlends own Nick Venable) at the ABC panel, said that its exactly this type of interest in the revamped show that has convinced network executives that audiences still care about the annual awards show. She explained:

I ironically have found that the lack of clarity around the Oscars has kept the Oscars really in conversation. And that the mystery has bene really compelling. People really care. I think its fascinating. I was actually at the Nominees Luncheon yesterday, and I can tell you, it was a very exciting room to be in. The list of presenters is phenomenal, and growing. And I, for one, am excited because in no time in history have there ever been three movies nominated for Best Picture, each having grossed over $200 million. I think were going to see a big turnout for this, because there are big, popular movies that are being nominated. And I think people really care to see who is going to win.

She might be right. At the very least, this years Oscars will be a trial run to see if a new format can succeed. Because the Host gig at the Academy Awards has become a huge lose-lose scenario for whoever take the role. And so, if a hostless show gets great reviews, this might become the norm.

The Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 24 on ABC.
