While the rousing success of Aquaman at the box office may have helped calm the waters of the DC extended universe for now, many fans still have a lot of questions about where that universe has been. For the year prior to Aquaman's release, the topic of conversation was Justice League, more specifically, how the work of two different directors changed the film. Now we appear to have some answers. Neil Daly, an actor who oversaw test screenings of both Justice League and Aquaman says that Zack Snyder worked with James Wan to help shift the character of Arthur Curry away from some of the changes Joss Whedon made in the team up film, specifically, regarding Aquaman's more adolescent humor. According to Daly...

We could have gotten a whole movie about Aquaman just basically fawning over Mera the whole time and making all kinds of dirty jokes and things like that and they had to really kinda get away from that, which is all what Whedon had done, so Snyder had a little bit more of an influence on Aquaman. James Wan was showing Zack Snyder - against the studio's wishes - James Wan was showing Zack Snyder cuts of the movie and early test screenings and storyboards to make sure that they're on the same page with what he originally wanted and Snyder gave his blessing of approval, liked everything that he did and kinda brought it back to the charactert that he wanted it to be all along.

According to Neil Daly, who says he has first-hand knowledge of this information, though obviously can't go into too much detail about from whom, says that much of the humor in the film, such as the sequence where Aquaman sits on the lasso of truth and makes several leering jokes at Wonder Woman, were the creation of Whedon, and James Wan, in directing Aquaman had to make a course correction in order to shift away from the character acting that way.

James Wan had spoken previously about the fact that he had shown Zack Snyder an early cut of Aquaman and had received Snyder's blessing to move forward, the idea that this was done against the wishes of Warner Bros., however, as Neil Daly tells the Fire and Water Podcast, is new information.

Almost since Justice League was released there has been a vocal contingent of fans who have wanted to see the version of Justice League that Zack Snyder would have created if he had retained complete creative control. While it's highly unlikely that we will ever see that, this does give us some insight into at least some of the elements that would have been different.

It's certainly true that the Arthur Curry that we see in Aquaman, and the movie as a whole, doesn't cash in on sexual jokes quite as much as Justice League. The existence of the jokes in the one movie isn't the entire reason the film reviewed poorly, and the lack of them isn't the entire reason that Aquaman did well, but it certainly doesn't hurt.




There's no doubt that A Star Is Born is going to be one of the hottest movies of the Fall (and probably of the upcoming awards season judging by early reactions). In case you haven't seen the trailer yet, the movie, starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, is about the complicated relationship between a talented ingenue whose career is just beginning and a declining superstar.

Has Jake Gyllenhaals Mysterio Look For Spider-Man: Far From Home Been Revealed?

We thought by now we'd have a full-length Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer to analyze. We do not. Which means we don't yet officially know what Jake Gyllenhaal's on-screen Mysterio will look like when the legendary Marvel character finally makes his debut. However, a new image has arrived online that appears to be from a magazine profiling Spider-Man's newest "adversary," and this illustration gives us an idea of how the costume will look:

And yes, fans. Don't worry. Mysterio WILL have the fish bowl helmet. However, much like Tony Stark frequently pulls back his helmet to show Robert Downey Jr.'s money-maker, the Mysterio suit will show off Jake Gyllenhaal's face, as well.

I put quotes around the word "Adversary" because we also have learned that Gyllenhaal will actually start Spider-Man: Far From Home as a protagonist for the Web Head (played once again by Tom Holland). Based on quotes that the cast gave in Brazil at the local Comic-Con, Mysterio will be hired by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to help him track down Elementals, or creatures that draw their power from scientific elements.

Fury also will tap Spider-Man for assistance, and Holland described his relationship with Gyllenaal as a big brother/little brother dynamic.

Also, Spider-Man will rock this very cool Stealth Suit, so he can fight crime around Europe without his classmates wondering why both Peter Parker AND Spider-Man happen to be overseas at the same time.

But it's SuperBroMovies contributor Daniel Richtman who gets proper credit for sharing the look at Mysterio's costume in the upcoming Spider-Man sequel, and it ticks off a number of MCU boxes. It looks like body armor. It shows off the gauntlets that Mysterio uses when creating his illusions. And it has a long ass cape, which is essential to the image of the character. All I need to see in the first trailer is a lot of billowy smoke around Mysterio. That's a deal breaker.

Our biggest question for Spider-Man: Far From Home remains HOW our hero will return after fading to dust at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. From what we have heard, the Far From Home trailer begins as if nothing from Infinity War happened, so we assume that Avengers: Endgame will explain that, and set Peter on his vacation course for Europe.

We will find out more when the trailer finally drops. As for Spider-Man: Far From Home, look for it in theaters on July 5, 2019.

The Bohemian Rhapsody Cast Says Queen Deserves More Respect From Rock Fans

Quick, name the best rock band in history. Got your answer? We probably have a lot of Rolling Stones and Beatles answers. More than a few Led Zeppelin votes. Maybe even The Who. How far down do you think we go before you hit Queen? For some reason, they are not immediately thought of in a conversation like this, so when we interviewed the cast of Bohemian Rhapsody, we asked if Queen gets the respect that they deserved as a rock outfit, and co-star Gwilym Lee replied:

I don't know, perhaps not. Their music is just so universal. You hear it so often that I think the danger is that you take it for granted. And I think what's beautiful about this film is it actually forces you to address the idea of these songs being written for the first time, and what genius that took. They were the only band whose every member wrote a Number One single. They crossed all kinds of genres, all kinds of styles. And it's what gives their music such longevity.

As you will see now that Bohemian Rhapsody is in theaters, there was a time -- before we can remember -- when songs like "We Are The Champions" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" were not global hits. And as Gwilym Lee, who plays Queen guitarist Brian May in the movie, points out, even the guys in Queen thought Freddie Mercury was off the mark in his songwriting... for a time.

One thing going against Queen in this sense is that they didn't limit themselves to traditional rock. "Another One Bites the Dust" and "Radio Ga Ga" have distinct disco elements to them. "Under Pressure" is practically pop. Ben Hardy, who plays Roger Taylor in the movie, went on to explain:

The fact that their music transcends genre is why maybe they're not quite pigeonholed like some of those rock bands are. They are amazing. But you know, they're very much like, that's their thing. They're a great rock and roll band. Whereas Queen's more than that.

And that's why they are able to stand the test of time and appeal to so many different audiences. Some may like the harder edge of Queen. Some may appreciate their melodic vocals. It's all on display in Bohemian Rhapsody.
