One Badass Moment Mothra Has In The Godzilla 2 Trailer

The MonsterVerse is growing at a rapid pace, with 2014's Godzilla giving us the giant lizard and last year's Kong: Skull Island giving us a new take on King Kong. Now things are going to get even bigger with Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which debuted its first official trailer at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend. The preview was full of awesome moments, but one specific element worth honing in on was the powers displayed by Mothra, which you can check out, below!

On the surface, that seems merely like an absolutely gorgeous shot of the moth-like Kaiju appearing in the sky. However, the shot (via Twitter) from that the sequence actually shows Mothra displaying her "God Ray" powers, which were psychic abilities used to destroy and communicate in the earlier Godzilla movies. With Godzilla: King of the Monsters taking things in a direction that seems slightly more grounded in the realm of science (or, at least as grounded as a movie like this can be), it seems that the film is conveying that ability through the concept of bioluminescence,

Of course, the arrival of Mothra and her powers only represents a fraction of what we can expect from Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The film looks quite a bit larger than the original Godzilla, with the titular lizard joined by creatures like Mothra and Rodan this time around. Add that to the fact that this movie definitely takes place within the same timeline as the one featured in Kong: Skull Island, and it becomes increasingly clear just how much the folks behind the MonsterVerse are focusing on scale and scope in the creation of these massive monsters.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters takes place after the events of the original Godzilla. As humanity gradually begins to cope with the existence of the massive Kaiju, scientists slowly but surely uncover a mystery revealing that the fate of the planet hinges on the balance of power between the powers of Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah. This conflict ultimately leads to a massive (seriously, the trailer looks utterly insane in how big it is) clash between the creatures, with humanity standing on the sidelines to see who emerges as the real king of the monsters.

Bond 25 May Be Delayed Following Danny Boyle's Exit

Things seemed to finally running smoothly for Bond 25. Daniel Craig confirmed last year that he would reprise James Bond one last time, and in March, it was officially announced that Trainspotting director Danny Boyle would helm the project and work on the script with frequent collaborator John Hodge. However, word came in this week that Boyle departed Bond 25 due to creative differences, and now it's being reported that instead of simply looking for a director to replace Boyle, MGM and Eon want to go back to the drawing board with Bond 25, which could lead to the movie being delayed.

According to Variety, after Danny Boyle left Bond 25, MGM and Eon put the word out for a writer or writer-director to join the project. Apparently the bigwigs at those companies don't simply want to find a new director to fill Boyle's shoes, but want to recruit someone to work on the story since the script that Boyle drafted with John Hodge didn't meet the approval of Daniel Craig and Eon producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. In other words, major rewrites are in store. If that happens, then Bond 25 wouldn't meet December production start, subsequently requiring the release date to be pushed back from its current November 8, 2019 slot.

What's interesting about all this is that even before Danny Boyle boarded Bond 25, there was already a script around written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who co-wrote the last six James Bond movies. If this report is accurate, apparently there isn't any interest in returning to this earlier draft, with the goal now being to start Bond 25 from scratch. That's a bold move, but if MGM and Eon feels that's the best course of action to deliver the best Bond 25 as possible, then better to go down that path than churn out a product they don't like.

Whatever the next step for Bond 25 is, one thing is clear: Daniel Craig isn't going anywhere. While at one time he insisted he wasn't interested in playing James Bond again after Spectre, he's getting a $25 million paycheck and "an enviable amount of creative control" for changing his mind. As far as directors go, previous candidates Denis Villeneuve and David Mackenzie are no longer available because they're working on the Dune reboot and Gemstone TV series, respectively. Mission: Impossible - Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie is rumored to have been floated as a replacement, although he has indicated he would like to do an original movie next rather than stay in franchise territory.

The Awesome Way Emily Blunt Connected To Her Quiet Place Character

At its core, acting requires people to play pretend for a living. Having said that, some roles are more intimate and personal than others. That's something that CinemaBlend recently had a chance to talk about with Emily Blunt during an interview about her work on A Quiet Place, and the actress revealed that her role as the mother in the movie is one of her most personal pieces of work yet because of her own status as a mother. Addressing her connection to the character, Blunt told us:

I just understood this mother so much. It's a very personal film for me. It's a very intimate film, much more so than any other character I've played because often you're sort of required to play somebody who's rather dissimilar from you. So that's a stretch, in its own right. When I did Girl on the Train or Sicario... how those girls live is completely different from how I live. This mother is somebody who I admire so much. I relate to her so much. I'm someone who sort of worries unnecessarily about her children anyway, as most parents do. This is like the magnified version of what my experience would be as a mother in this environment. So, it was moving and kind of gut-wrenching and at times the bright line between me and the character would become a little blurry. It's just such an intimate experience for me going through this.

Emily Blunt has played a wide variety of roles over the course of her career. From playing the lonely and alcoholic Rachel Watson in The Girl on the Train to the tactical and no-nonsense Kate Macer in Sicario, the Edge of Tomorrow actress has shown a natural ability to blend into unique environments. However, per her comments to CinemaBlend, A Quiet Place was far more personal and intimate for her because she was able to channel her own fears and anxieties as a mother and apply them to this heightened horror scenario. Of course, Blunt has played a mother before, but a big difference between a film like Looper and A Quiet Place is that she became a real mother herself in 2014 (and then again in 2016), so she now has a well of authenticity to draw from in her performance.

The authenticity of A Quiet Place arguably seems even more pronounced when we consider the fact that Emily Blunt was allowed to work alongside her husband, John Krasinski (who also directed the project) by playing the wife to his husband. In a film largely devoid of dialogue to help forge connections between actors, it seems relatively easy to assume that a natural romantic connection between the leads helped Krasinski and Blunt convey their on-screen romance as well. The result? A story as profoundly personal as it is genuinely terrifying.
