Samuel L. Jackson Surprised Italian Marvel Fans At Avengers: Endgame Screening

This weekend Marvel fans the world over will be able to see a ridiculous number of their favorite stars on the big screen, as Avengers: Endgame collects characters from all corners of the beloved Cinematic Universe for one big blockbuster. Very few, however, will be able to watch the movie with a real Marvel star in attendance - but that's exactly what one screening in Italy recently got to experience thanks to a surprise appearance by Samuel L. Jackson:

Samuel L. Jackson has been an integral part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe from the very beginning - specifically ever since the original Iron Man when he first told Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark about the existence of the Avenger Initiative - but due to his shooting schedule he wasn't one of the stars who attended the world premiere of Avengers: Endgame earlier this week. That was almost surely a bummer for the actor, but the good news is that it didn't take him too long to catch a screening of the film.

Per Samuel L. Jackson's personal Instagram account, he recently made a special appearance at the Cinema Ambasciatori in Trieste, Italy where he surprised fans by ducking into a screening of Avengers: Endgame. Jackson is currently in the region doing work on both the upcoming The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard and reshoots for Spider-Man: Far From Home, and it seems that he got a break in his schedule long enough to squeeze in a cool surprise for Italian cinema fans.

Since appearing in Iron Man, Samuel L. Jackson has been a consistent presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having notably signed an early nine picture deal with Marvel Studios when the franchise was still in its infancy. Jackson followed up his cameo as Nick Fury in the 2008 Jon Favreau film with a more substantial part in Iron Man 2, and then he was back on the big screen again as the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in Captain America: The First Avenger. Following his turn in The Avengers, he made a special appearance in the first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and was then in both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

After that we didn't see much of him for a few years, but 2019 is pretty huge for Nick Fury. Not only did we just recently see him playing a major role in Captain Marvel, but this summer we expect him to have a key part in the aforementioned Spider-Man: Far From Home, where he will be recruiting Peter Parker (Tom Holland) for a mission while the high schooler is on a European field trip.

What will come next for him? Only time will tell. You'll just have to go see every Marvel movie from here on out and wait for Samuel L. Jackson's potential presence. And even if he doesn't appear on screen, he may wind up sitting next to you in your local theater.

Jason Momoa Thanks Zack Snyder And James Wan For Aquaman's $1 Billion Success

DC and Warner Bros.' Aquaman has made over a billion dollars at the box office worldwide. That's not a paltry number or one to be scoffed at, and it's no surprise James Wan has already spoken out about. Now, DC's own Jason Momoa is speaking out about the role of a lifetime and how Aquaman hitting a billion is definitely a career peak for him. He said:

BILLION DOLLAR UNDERDOG. from Baywatch to making what once was the most disrespected superhero into a billion dollar movie. no one gets to the top without the people that love them. My success is from my fans. All my aloha to everyone that had a hand in making this movie. Mahalo Zack for choosing me and mahalo James for creating this beautiful world.

DC and Warner Bros. have shifted direction away from Zack Snyder's vision of the comics universe; however, a lot of the director's original flourishes remain. In the case of Arthur Curry, things like Curry choosing Momoa's own wardrobe and the badass tattoos that adorn his body all spawned from Snyder's mind.

In his Instagram post, Momoa capably acknowledges Zack Snyder's contributions while also making it clear that it was James Wan who really brought Atlantis to life on the big screen. It's a deft post and a memorable one.

It should be noted that James Wan previously thanked a bunch of people, but spent an entire tweet focusing on Jason Momoa's efforts in the franchise after Aquaman hit the billion dollar mark. He said:

Secondly, I'll forever be indebted to Jason for turning Aquaman into one of the coolest, cinematic superheroes ever, and becoming the gold standard for this character for generations to come.

A few months ago, it was a bit surprising when Aquaman sales estimates went up from what was expected to be around $40 million opening week to around $100 million. It didn't hit the mark and ended up pulling $67.4 million, with headlines gleefully touting it to be the lowest domestic opener in DC history.

Just when people started writing off the movie, it kept enticing viewers over the winter holiday and flourished worldwide as well. Just a few short weeks later, Aquaman became the first DC movie to hit the billion dollar mark since The Dark Knight Rises.

It's journey at the box office isn't over yet, either, although the movie did nab second place at the box office for the first time during its run this past weekend. It lost to the new 2019 movie The Upside, starring Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston.

Aquaman still made $17. 3 million at the domestic box office this weekend, and it still has to open in markets like Japan.

Not bad for a movie that used to be an Entourage punchline.





Aquaman has just hit the $1 billion mark in global earnings and Jason Momoa and director James Wan are thanking everybody who made this success possible. Often ridiculed in the pages of the comics, in the animated series, and even by fans, Momoa's casting as Arthur Curry helped tremendously in quashing the goofy image of the character.

Weird Rumors Swirl Around Missing Chinese Superstar Fan Bingbing

While not well known here, Fan Bingbing is a huge star in China. However, as prominent as the actress is, nobody has apparently seen her in some time. The actress reportedly hasn't been seen in public since July 1 and her social media accounts have been dark since July 23, leading to speculation that something has happened to the actress. Rumors run the gamut from a belief she is being detained by Chinese authorities to her having escaped to the U.S. in order to avoid the same.

Earlier this year Fan Bingbing was the highest paid actress in China and was a popular choice for the promotion of luxury brands in the nation. However, recently Fan's name has been linked to a widespread tax evasion scandal in China that has included numerous names in the country's entertainment industry. Apparently, performers were being given two contracts for some films. A small one was used for tax purposes but the second revealed that actors were being paid much more.

It seems that some believe that Fan may have been detained by Chinese authorities due to these alleged tax evasion issues. However, a Hong Kong tabloid reported at the end of August that the actress was seen at an immigration office in Los Angeles, though it seems that report has no corroboration.

Whatever the situation, it's clear that China has become a less than hospitable place for the actress. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that a recent report ranking the social responsibility of China's 100 top stars from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences ranked Fan Bingbing dead last, with a score of zero out of 100. Even if nothing unfortunate has happened to the actress, it would not be surprising if she's simply keeping an intentionally low profile.

Western audiences probably know Fan Bingbing best from her small role as Blink in X-Men: Days of Future Past, though she is currently scheduled to be part of the star-studded ensemble cast of spy thriller 355 that will co-star Jessica Chastain, Penelope Cruz, and Lupita Nyong'o, which could very likely raise her profile stateside in a big way.

This wouldn't be the first time that are a person in the public eye just took a break from being in public without anything nefarious being at play, but given the circumstances, it seems that there is something to this story, even if exactly what it is, is not clear. The actresses representatives aren't talking either.

Hopefully, whatever is going on, Fan Bingbing is ok. At some point, given the actress' popularity, something will have to be said revealing what has happened, as it's unlikely people will just forget about somebody with a fanbase like hers.
