Spoiler Warning: This is all about the ending of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. You have been warned!

The ending of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has got people talking. Whether it's from those who were genuinely surprised by the twists, or those who were frustrated by it, the final moments of the film have been a big point of conversation. Eddie Redmayne, who stars in the movie as Newt Scamander, falls into the camp of people who were shocked by the conclusion, as the actor recounts when he first read it in the script.

I mean, I found out when I read the script. I've been asked about this, but when I read it, it was genuinely jaw-dropping for me. It was one of those scripts that you finished. You read in one, and then you started rereading all over again. The connections and the complexities, and just, it felt sort of, even more full each time you read it. I'm curious as to, I've only seen the film once, but I wonder how it plays when you see it again, and whether there are always new things that you can pull out from it.

And here come the spoilers! The Crimes of Grindelwald makes a big deal out of learning Credence Barebone's true lineage. The powerful Obscurial wants to know who his family is, and joins forces with Grindelwald because he claims to know the truth. At the end of the movie, Grindelwald reveals to Credence that his real name is Aurelius Dumbledore, and it's heavily implied that he is Albus Dumbledore's brother.

Now, this raises a whole bunch of questions and complications that Harry Potter fans have raised over how this conflicts with the established lore. Grindelwald could be lying, but at the moment, we have to take it at face value. Credence is a Dumbledore, and he's on a collision course with Albus.

Despite the issues that this raises, it's still a surprising development, and Eddie Redmayne couldn't believe it when he first read the script. Redmayne told Collider that it's one of those twists that add to the story when you watch it over again. Redmayne is excited to find out what happens next, and it'll be interesting to see where this new twist takes the story.

Some fans aren't quite as enthusiastic as Redmayne is about the ending. I would argue that the movie doesn't put in the work to make this reveal as exciting or shocking as it thinks it is. Credence, the character the whole plot revolves around, isn't in the movie much-- and he doesn't have a ton to do when on screen.

One could argue that these Fantastic Beasts movies will play better when watched as a whole, but we won't know that until the other three release. At the moment, you can catch Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in theaters now.





I know I could just re-watch The Exorcist myself to find out if the comparison is flawed, but since seeing Hereditary, I haven't wanted to watch any other horror. The Flash Gordon Reboot Is Back On Track

Believe it or not, it's been nearly 40 years since Flash Gordon hit theaters, and while the movie hinted that a sequel might follow, that ultimately never came to fruition. Regardless, the character still lingers on the fringes of pop culture, and for nearly half a decade, there have been various attempts to make a Flash Gordon reboot. Now it looks like this project is back on steady ground, as Overlord director Julius Avery has been tapped to tackle this new Flash Gordon tale.

20th Century Fox has hired Julius Avery to write and direct the Flash Gordon reboot. Matthew Vaughn was previously being eyed to helm this feature, but now he will instead produce with John Davis and Hearst. Given that Vaughn is expected to direct the upcoming Kingsman 3, just like he did the previous two movies, I can't say I'm surprised that he won't step in the director's chair for Flash Gordon, but it is good to hear he'll still be involved in its creation.

That being said, now it's up to Julius Avery deliver a new Flash Gordon movie for a new era, first by writing it and then overseeing it being brought to life in front of the cameras. After directing many short films, Avery made his feature filmmaking debut in 2014 with 2014's Son of a Gun, which starred Ewan McGregor, Brenton Thwaites and Alicia Vikander.

In a couple weeks, we'll see how well Julius Avery handles the horror genre with Overlord, which was produced by J.J. grams through Bad Robot Productions. Overlord follows a team of paratroopers during World War II who are caught behind enemy lines after D-Day, and upon finding their target, not only will they have to contend with standard Nazi soldiers, they'll also have to fight grotesque, zombie-like soldiers that are the product of a secret Nazi experiment. And contrary to initial belief, Overlord is not part of the Cloverfield franchise. It stands on its own, and you can get a taste of what it has to offer by watching the below trailer.

We'll have to wait and see how Overlord performs in theaters, although it's already collected a lot of positive reception from early reviews. Regardless, evidently Fox is confident enough in Julius Avery's talent that it's tasked him with helming the Flash Gordon reboot. According to Deadline, Avery grew up being a fan of Flash Gordon, and when he went to Fox to pitch his take, the studio "sparked to it" and hired him for the job. Mark Protosevich had previously been working on the Flash Gordon script, but this latest report makes it sound like Avery is starting from scratch on the story.

Flash Gordon was created by Alex Raymond and made his comic strip debut in 1934, four years before Superman was introduced in Action Comics #1 and kicked off the superhero genre. In the original source material, Flash Gordon was a professional athlete who battles the evil Ming the Merciless on the planet Mongo, which Ming rules with an iron fist. Flash is aided by allies Dale Arden (his girlfriend) and Dr. Hans Zarkov (one of the world's most renowned scientists).

In later years, Flash Gordon would become an astronaut who traveled to other words, but he's chiefly known for his adventures on Mongo. In the late 1930s, Flash made the jump to the big screen and was played by Buster Crabbe in the film serials Flash Gordon, Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars and Flash Gordon Conquers The Universe.

Over 40 years later, the feature-length Flash Gordon movie came out, which was directed by Mike Hodges and starred Sam J. Jones as the eponymous character, Melody Anderson as Dale, Chaim Tool as Zarkov, Max von Sydow as Ming, Ornella Muti as Princess Aura, Timothy Dalton as Prince Barin and Brian Blessed as Prince Vultan. That movie only made $27 million worldwide, but earned a fair amount of positive reviews, and nowadays it's considered a cult classic. Alas, we'll never find out who picked up Ming's ring in that last frame.

Flash Gordon has also been the subject of various radio serials, television shows (both animated and live action) and comic books over the decades, and the movie even got a lot of love in both of Seth MacFarlane's Ted movies (which included Sam Jones playing as an unhinged version of himself). However, like his sci-fi hero predecessor Buck Rogers, he's not nearly culturally relevant nowadays as he was long ago. In fact, if it wasn't for the 1980 movie, I doubt most people would know who Flash Gordon is, and Fox almost certainly wouldn't be working to get a live action adventure starring the hero off the ground.

But with so much time having passed since both Flash Gordon was at the height of his popularity and the original movie came out, this reboot is an opportunity to reintroduce the character to the masses and put a different spin on the source material. It helps that Julius Avery grew up appreciating the Flash Gordon stories, so not only will he do the mythology justice, but, as is important with any reboot, he'll find a way to make this new version different than the first movie.

Whether that means returning Flash Gordon to the 1930s time period, redesigning the look of Mongo and its inhabitants, or taking the action to other corners of the galaxy, we'll have to wait and see. But above all else, the Flash Gordon reboot needs to stand out from the crowd, and let's not forget that sci-fi and superhero movies are much more popular than they were in 1980. If Julius Avery has figured out a way to make Flash Gordon appeal to a modern audience, then I'm game to see what he comes up with.

Mark Hamill Had Pitched J.J. Abrams A Luke, Leia, And Han Scene For The Force Awakens

Should Mark Hamill write the next Star Wars trilogy? He's excited for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and all the speculation it has already spawned, but he has been open with his frustrations with the sequel trilogy -- including that we never got a real Luke/Leia/Han reunion. Turns out, he had an idea that could've at least partially given fans (and himself) that gift before the end of the Skywalker Saga.

Mark Hamill said he pitched his idea to J.J. Abrams when they were making Episode VII, The Force Awakens, as an alternate way for Luke to make a surprise late-in-the-film appearance while still managing to get the OG gang together again.

Everyone talks about the shock of realizing that, on Force Awakens, I don't come in until the last page. A bigger shock to me was them killing Han Solo before Luke could ever see his best friend again. I mean, it might be selfishly motivated, but I said, 'Holy cow, that's a real missed opportunity!' Even having the three of us together, even briefly.

So Mark Hamill told THR what he had previously pitched to The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams:

I pitched [J.J.] Abrams on the idea of, 'You can still have me come in at the very end, but how about this? How about Leia's trying to contact me telepathically, she gets frustrated because there's no answers, so she rushes to the new Death Star. And she almost gets there but she gets stopped by two Stormtroopers and, just before she's abducted, one Stormtrooper turns to the other one, blows him away, pulls off his helmet and says "Hi, sis, I'm here to rescue you."' I said, 'It'll blow the roof off the joint!' I'm still in it at the very end. And I think it's more effective to have people who have more of a history with Han Solo witness his dead, and be unable to stop it -- his wife, the mother of his child, his best friend -- instead of two characters who have known him what, 20 minutes?

Well, you'll get no argument from me. J.J. Abrams has already taken heat for The Force Awakens showing Leia hug Rey after Han's death instead of Han's other BFF Chewbacca. 'Cause it's true, Rey barely knew Han Solo. It would've had more impact to see Luke, Leia, and Chewie's emotional reactions. Abrams has shared regrets about the blocking of that particular scene, since it did come across as "a slight" to Chewie, which was not intended.

So it sounds like Mark Hamill had issues with both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, since he has also been candid with his frustration on the direction of Luke's storyline in Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Even if Episode IX somehow cobbles a Skywalker reunion together, it's too late for it to have the same kind of impact it could've had in The Force Awakens. Han Solo was killed by his son Ben/Kylo in The Force Awakens, Luke died in The Last Jedi, and Leia actress Carrie Fisher died in real life. Luke is still returning somehow in The Rise of Skywalker -- perhaps the title is a hint there -- and Leia will be shown in previously unused footage. But Star Wars lost its chance to get the original trio back.

Mark Hamill recently posted a photo hugging Harrison Ford, showing his own version of a Luke/Han reunion. He's really laying it on thick, but the frustration is shared by fans. That said, unlike Hamill, we as fans don't know what The Rise of Skywalker has in store in terms of Skywalker family reunions. The teaser trailer already showed Carrie Fisher's Leia in another mid-hug moment, but maybe we can hope for even more from J.J. Abrams, who has learned from his experience on The Force Awakens.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens in theaters December 20, as one of the many films to look forward to watching on the big screen in 2019.

Nostalgia has proved a powerful tool in the entertainment industry, heralding in endless reboots and sequels. This has also extended to the horror genre, as a new Halloween movie will arrive this year. A Child's Play reboot is also in the works, with Audrey Plaza attached to play the film's protagonist. Chucky is returning in a new and updated franchise, and the iconic villain is getting a brand new look for the upcoming slasher flick. He's not the Good Guy you know and love, and now Chucky creator and Child's Play franchise writer Don Mancini has responded to the new look in the shadiest way possible.

Ouch. Don Mancini is not happy with Chucky's look in the new Child's Play movie, and he's not afraid to make that known. But rather than tearing into the upcoming reboot with his words, he allowed the always iconic Mariah Carey to handle it instead. Thanks, Twitter.

For those who don't know, Mariah Carey's utterance of "I don't know her" has become somewhat of a catch phrase over the past few years. The origin comes from her feud with Jennifer Lopez, with Carey constantly repeating that she doesn't know J.Lo. Even though... we all know J.Lo. It's become a legendary moment of sass, one that Don Mancini seems all to happy to utilize in order to show his disdain for the Child's Play reboot.

Don Mancini's feelings toward the Child's Play reboot shouldn't be too much of a surprise, considering the writer/director's long history with the franchise. Mancini helped create Chucky with the original film, and stayed on for all the subsequent sequels. In addition to writing and producing the sequels, he also directed the past few installments. Chucky is Mancini's baby, and now the character is being handed over to someone else.

Since Don Mancini isn't involved in the Child's Play reboot, it should be interesting how different the upcoming movie is. In addition to being written by someone new, the reboot will also change up its format a bit. It'll reportedly be focused on a group of kids a la Stranger Things, and Chucky will be getting some technological improvements as well. What those might be are a mystery.
