How Marvel Studios Will Be Structured After Disney Takes Over Fox, According To Bob Iger
It's no secret that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is an absolutely giant and massively successful franchise. And while the behemoth shared universe came to a head with Avengers: Infinity War, it may become even bigger in the next few years. With Disney's acquisition of Fox's assets in the works, franchise like the X-Men movies or Deadpool have the potential to finally join the greater MCU. Both Marvel Studios and Fox have been keeping tight lipped about this possibility, but Disney CEO Bob Iger has recently broken his silence about the merger. When he was asked if 20th Century Fox's superhero properties would be combining with the MCU, Iger said:
I think it only makes sense. I want to be careful here because of what's been communicated to the Fox folks, but I think they know. It only makes sense for Marvel to be supervised by one entity. There shouldn't be two Marvels.
Do you hear that? It's the sound of countless comic book fans jumping for joy. Since serialized storytelling became the norm through the Marvel Cinematic Universe's inception, moviegoers are hoping that the likes of the X-Men could interact with Marvel characters like The Avengers. And now it looks like we'll get our wish. But when?
Bob Iger's comments to THR are going to set the internet ablaze, as it seemingly confirms a long standing fan theory. The X-Men franchise's lack of connection to the MCU has always been a sore spot for the fans-- one that is referenced relentlessly during the Deadpool movies. Bob Iger seems to recognize this, and knows what the fans have been asking for.
Given the current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems like a perfect opportunity to potentially bring in Deadpool, Mystique, and the rest of 20th Century Fox's iconic mutant characters. Many of Marvel's biggest stars are coming to the end of their contracts with Avengers 4, including the likes of Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Robert Downey Jr.. Marvel Studios has been keeping its cards close to the chest, and it's unclear if these character will have a future in the shared universe after the curtain drops on The Russo Brothers' next (untitled) Avengers flick.
Bob Iger's comments are certainly fascinating, and CinemaBlend will keep the fans updated on all things Marvel and X-Men. The next installment in the MCU is Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019, and the X-Men franchise will return with Dark Phoenix on February 14, 2019. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
Whatever becomes of Hulu specifically, Disney's acquisition of Fox's stake in the streamer allows Iger to hedge his bets, creating multiple ways to take on Netflix in the streaming wars.
